For assistants & directors
Community ENABLE Funding (CEF) is wholesale money from the British Business Bank to not-for-profit CDFIs. It is not a loan the director applies for at BBB. It is not money Strata advances.
Launched November 2024 so CDFIs can lend more to smaller businesses that mainstream lenders decline — including firms in deprived areas and ethnic minority-led or female-led businesses. The CDFI still underwrites. A bank decline helps the mission case. It does not waive viability, HMRC issues, or subsidy limits.
Public announcements from accredited partners usually start just over £25,000. Several cite a band up to about £250,000. A heavy multi-facility stack above that may need another specialist on the same file, or instead of CEF.
Growth Guarantee Scheme rules sit on CEF facilities, including group limits and subsidy tests. Confirm current GGS terms with the specific CDFI — the July 2026 GGS package changed some turnover caps and term lengths at scheme level.
